The Artist's Studio
The Artist's Studio
Description
He studies under the direction of Prof. Camil Ressu, but fails to graduate from the Art Institute due to the fact that his final work is deemed nationalistic, an absolutely unacceptable fact during the realist socialism era. For several years, he manages neither to exhibit, nor to get a studio for carrying out his work. Beginning with 1958, Ion Alin Gheorghiu gain recognition from abroad and takes on a more active artistic role. Although he is offered a diploma by the Art Institute, Gheorghiu refuses, deeming the refusal initially attributed to him actually being a personal gain. He has drawn comparisons to Luchian, Pallady or Tonitza. He sought his subjects in the immediate reality and transferred all the experience he gained by studying onto the canvas. He uses heavy brush strokes, fragmented models and a bright chromatic. It depicts static, still life and the compositions created are almost geometrical in nature. The horizontal and the vertical intertwine to form a harmonious, flawless cohesion throughout his works.
