Description

Titled evocatively for its permanent move to the French lands, the work "Fleurs de bonheur" is representative of the abstract, avant-garde style adopted by Alexandru Istrati. His art is non-figurative, subjective, progressive, characterized by innovation and experimentation. In "Fleurs de bonheur," we find a variety of lines and patches of color, a blend of emotions conveyed through suggestions of geometric shapes and juxtapositions of colors. In Romania, Istrati studied law and later painting under the guidance of Camil Ressu. Alexandru Istrati was awarded the Kandinsky Prize in 1953. Notably, besides numerous international exhibitions where the artist's works have been displayed, is his friendship with Brâncuși, whom he cared for along with his wife until the end of his life.
