Description
The icon depicts Saint John the Baptist as the angel of the desert against a green/dark green background. He is portrayed in bust, with his camelswool brown-beige himation, covered with a green mantle on his left shoulder. In his left hand he holds a phylactery wrapped around a scepter with a cross, and in the bottom right, a container with the image of the saint's head, a symbol of his martyrdom. He blesses with his right hand. The inscription designating the scene is written in white, in a transitional alphabet: "St. John the Baptist".
