Description
The anonymous painter depicts the scene of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary ("Birth of the Precious One" in the inscription on the icon), simplifying the consecrated scene to the minimum. Against the background of religious architectures, which stand out against the blue background of the icon, the aforementioned scene unfolds: on the left, is Saint Joachim, and on the right side of the composition, Saint Anne is sitting on a bed, awkwardly depicted vertically. Between them, the Virgin Mary, as a baby, is lying in a crib. Stylistically, the painting of the icon is tributary to the post-Brâncovenesc painting in Wallachia during the 18th century. (A.D.)
