PROVENANCE
collection of diplomat Viorel Tilea (1896-1972). Viorel Tilea was Romania's Ambassador in Great Britain, his name being tied to what was teh called the "Tilea incident". He warned the Foreign Office twice (16, 17 of March 1939) of a possible agression of Nazi Germany against Romania, action which made him lose his Romanian citizenship and ask for political asylum in Great Britain. Although he received his citizenship back from King Mihai of Romania, he will lose it agian, during the comunist era, due to his actions in exile - being a founder of the Romanian Free Movement.
