The Venetian cartographer and publisher Vincenzo Maria Coronelli (1650-1718) created for King Louis XIV of France two splendid globes, one terrestrial and the other of the celestial vault, as well as many other similar pieces in important museum collections in Europe today. He also stands out for publishing The Venetian Atlas in 13 volumes. This piece is dedicated to Jacobo Marcello, Venetian nobleman, mercenary and man of letters.
