The Koshirae is characteristic of the Edo Period (1603-1868), in the aikuchi style (without tsuba), and a black roiro saya. Tsuka is wrapped in stingray skin, covered in black urushi-type lacquer and has two shakudo menuki figurines added, illustrations of a dragon and a lion. The history of the Kanefusa Family masters from the Mino Province dates back to the Muromachi Period (ca. 1400). The blade was crafted before Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu gained power and established the Tokugawa Shogunate.
