The Jaguar XJ40 Sovereign car was the last model produced by Jaguar as an independent company before being purchased by the automotive giant Ford, it is also the last model produced during the lifetime of Sir William Lyons, the company's founder. It won the title "The Safest Car in Great Britain". The model was a success, among the best selling Jaguar cars of all time, it was part of the British Police fleet, the British Government, and the Royal House of Great Britain.
