Research information

Most likely, the work of art took part in the retrospective Ștefan Luchian exhibition, Romanian Academy, from the 4th to the 31st of March 1939. In the exhibition's catalogue, in the 28th category, we can see mentioned the painting "Crizanteme" ("Chrysanthemums"), provided by Dr. Iosif Dona, and measuring 50 x 60 cm. The artwork is reproduced in the "Universul" Calendar in 1940, under the title "Flori" ("Flowers").

PROVENANCE

until 1919, it is likely part of the historical collection belonging to Art Critic Virgil Cioflec (1876-1948), Ștefan Luchian's friend and first monographer; Interwar period, historical collection Dr. Iosif Dona. In the inventory of the Dona collection, we discover that a chrysanthemum-themed (Crizanteme) work of art by Ștefan Luchian (a work of art which was not introduced, later on, in the inventory of the nationalised collection) was being added to the Doctor's collection around 1919-1920, following an exchange made with Virgil Cioflec, for 1,000 lei and 6 paintings.

For clarifications regarding the bidding procedure, hammer price costs, guarantee, payment, and collection terms for the winning lot, we recommend carefully reading/re-reading the Bidding Regulations.
