Notes

On the back, authenticated and marked in black: "The authentic work of G. Petrașcu, Mariana Petrașcu, September 13, 1989"

The work belongs to Gheorghe Petrașcu's period of artistic maturity, during the 1920s-1930s, a phase in which the painter demonstrates a particular interest in the Romanian landscape, traditional architecture, and old houses. Petrașcu emphasizes the materiality of objects and the expressiveness of the painted surface. At the same time, the peasant house becomes a subtle form of expressing Romanian specificity, without spectacular idealization of rural life. The construction seems to naturally belong to the land and the surrounding nature, becoming an integral part of the landscape, with examples such as "Country House," "House," or "Landscape with House," which are housed in the National Museum of Romania or the Bucharest Municipality Museum. Through this depiction of the traditional house, Gheorghe Petrașcu transforms an apparently modest subject into a study of time, matter, memory, and identity. The house is not merely an architectural element but the center of an atmosphere where construction, nature, and color are in an organic relationship. The simplicity of the composition, warm and earthy tones, expressive brushstrokes, and emphasis on texture reflect the artist's stylistic maturity and his personal way of transforming the Romanian rural landscape into an intimate and profoundly expressive image.
