PROVENANCE

the collection of Prof. Costin Murgescu, corresponding member of the Academy, and filmmaker Ecaterina Oproiu

The artist offers a meditative perspective on interior scenes and consistently brings still life to the forefront of the canvas, with various variations. In this work, the emphasis is on chromatic contrast, but we also observe the inclusion of light effects directly in the color. Pallady opts for a few main tones, which he varies in different ways. He easily transitions from black to gray and white, and from orange to ochre. The recurring element in his still lifes: the inkwell, appears here again, naturally accompanied by a quill. Both calligraphic elements find their resting place above the white sheets. Also on the surface of these papers is a vase with flowers. Symbol of love, beauty, and sensuality, the jasmine flower also finds its place in art. Throughout history, jasmine has inspired stories and legends, and the innocence of white flowers and their strong fragrance lead to the idea of purity of mind and heart. Therefore, the color palette will be contrasting, with the white flowers highlighted by the brown shades of the vase in which they reside. The objects inserted into the work become clues to the passions and personality of the artist, and this piece is thus a still life specific to Pallady, a conglomerate of objects that guide his creative self across the surface
