The German geographer and cartographer Sebastian Münster (1488-1552), a professor at the University of Basel, was best known, despite his prodigious work, for his famous world map, the Cosmographia, which was printed in 24 editions, the first description of the world in German. This piece belongs to this work, from an edition from 1578.
