One of the most important geographers of all times, Nicolas Sanson (1600-1667), Frenchman considered the father of modern geography in France, published in 1647, in Paris, his famous work, ‘Atlasul Europei’ (The Atlas of Europe), of which this piece is a part. He collaborated with his two sons, Guillaume and Adrien, who continued his activity. In the bottom left corner, there is a cartridge containing the title of the map and the name of the geographer. Engraving on copper, manually coloured after imprinting.
