The copy is complete, retaining both parts, the eight appended boards, as well as the map of Banat, which is retained as a facsimile. The book binding is made of cardboard plates wrapped in brown marbled paper. The book spine maintains the old label, with the text "Geschichte des Temeswarer. Banats.1.2.". The book contains no note of ownership or the reader. The only testimony of bibliophile interest is retained on the title page, in the upper right corner of the page, where, in the first half of the 20th century, an embossed seal was applied, with the text "Ex libris Radul B. Bossy", which certifies the book’s temporary owner. Radu Bosssy was a Romanian diplomat, an ambassador to Austria (1931-1934), Finland (1934-1936), Hungary(1936-1939), Italy (1939-1940), and Germany (1940-1941). He also reaffirmed himself as a historian and a publicist (v. Radu Bossy, Agenția diplomatică a României la Paris și legăturile politice franco-române sub Cuza Vodă (Romania’s Diplomatic Agency in Paris and French-Romanian connections under Cuza-Vodă), Bucharest, 1931; Idem, Agenția diplomatică a României la Belgrad și legăturile politice româno-sârbe sub Cuza Vodă (Romania’s Diplomativ Agency in Belgrade and Romanian-Serbian political relations under Cuza Vodă), Bucharest, 1934). His collection of documents, kept in an American archive (at Stanford University, in California) includes memories of pre-war Romania and the situation of Romanian after-war emigration. The book has significant patrimonial value. Francesco Griselini (1717, Venice -1787, Milan) was an Italian savant, born in 1717 at Venice. He carried out his activity in several fields, such as natural sciences, history, literature etc. In 1774, Griselini started a long trip in the Banat of Timișoara, to study this land and its people. After his 2 years and a half spent here, Griselini published a complex work: "Attempt at the Political and Natural History of the Banat of Timișoara" where he provides a detailed description of the historic and political, economic and social configuration of Banat and, at the same time, of the inhabitants of the land and of their customs. In his last years, Griselini was hospitalized in a sanatorium for neurological and mental diseases in Milan, where he passed away in 1787. His book, Geschichte des temesvar Banats [History of the Banat of Timișoara] was printed in two volumes (tied together as joint parts) in Johann Paul Kraus’ printing house in Vienna, in editio princeps. The publication has (5) sheets, 301 and 135 pages, plus VIII charts with boards and a precious map of Banat. The first part of the book presents the political history of the territory, starting from antiquity, the demographics, the peoples populating Banat, first of all the Romanian population The second part of the book describes the geographical and geological setting the mineral riches and the mineral and thermal waters. The eight boards illustrate in particular the antiquities preserved or discovered by that time on Banat’s territory. Of exceptional value is the great map of Banat, usually appended at the end of the volume. Considered in its historical time, the book is the most solid book on Banat and the Romanians of this territory, and it even describes the people’s customs and superstitions.
