Around 1790, a young French officer, involved in a duel condemned by law but accepted by the unwritten rules of chivalric honor, was sentenced to 42 days of seclusion in his room. Xavier de Maistre, by his name, would acquire a beautiful celebrity, which endures to this day, following the publication four years later of the pages written during his arrest, in the form of a book full of irony and humor, “Journey around my room”. For the author, every object around him, no matter how banal, offered him the pretext for a veritable foray into the great philosophical themes. For us, in addition to the literary value linked to the enlightenment of the era, the book also has a documentary value expressed through the foray into what we usually call daily life. This auction is also a journey, marked by books from princeps editions, with dedications and holographic signatures, rare magazines, original historical and more recent documents, manuscripts and maps, and period photographs. In a naive exercise of imagination, we could believe that Xavier de Maistre would be delighted to "travel" among the artifacts mentioned above. Let us accompany him because only in this way could we discover a unique universe around the painter Nicolae Vermont, an unknown Enescu and the vast published work of Mihai Eminescu's poems.
