After arriving in France, at Giverny, Mützner spends two years around Claude Monet, a period that will serve to work up his appetite for light and colour. Mützner is an impressionist colourist. Some of his works are created in the pointillist style, so the artist uses a division of colours, creating combinations wreathed in thoroughness and tunefulness. One of the recurring themes in the artist's work is the depiction of the feminine. The core of Mützner’s works is the thinking woman, engaged in intellectual concerns, surrounded by books or writing objects. Female protagonists inspire him and provide him with a plethora of variations to draw upon in his creations. He engenders a chromatic mosaic, where short brush strokes help to illustrate shapes and volumes. Mützner proves to be a painter of the moment, of the transient. The shades he uses are pastel, while the contrasts are subtle, and the shadows seem to quiver redolently. "Lectură" (Reading) is a decorative, painstaking portrait, where the fictility of shapes meets the vibrancy of shades.
