Historical Art Auction, including a selection of numismatics and militaria #540/2024

Cesianu-Racoviță Palace, Bucharest
Many times we believe that discovering the past teaches us to avoid repeating mistakes, failures, tragedies. The father of history, the great Herodotus, is attributed the saying, probably apocryphal, "Historia magistra vitae", which we try to transform into a creed. Even though contemporary reality shows us every day that it is not like that at all, we must not give up speaking, studying, understanding and, why not, collecting the past through its artifacts. Objects can become primary sources, not just archival documents or visual sources, which speak to us about the past, if we are capable of interrogating them. Equally, the past obliges us to discover it in all the nuances that composed it at a certain moment, from the achievements during royalty, to the tragedy of wars, antisemitism and the Holocaust, to the lives of people during the communist regime. This is what this auction aims to do.
