The commemorative cross Queen Elizabeth was established by King Carol I in 1878 to reward the effort of women from Romanian society, charity sisters or civilian personnel who distinguished themselves during the War of Independence. On the reverse, the central legend "Comfort and consolation - 1877/1878" is observed.
