The prince, later King Carol I, immediately upon arriving in the country, decided to transform Peleș Castle into the "cradle of the Romanian royal dynasty", following his father's example. He chose precious works of art to decorate his preferred residence in Sinaia. The castle was inaugurated on October 7, 1883, and the king continued to improve and expand the construction throughout his life. The inauguration ceremony started with a divine service at the Sinaia Monastery, attended by Romanian and foreign dignitaries, the metropolitan primate, and military personnel. After the service, the procession moved to the castle, where the flag was hoisted and the national anthem was played. A Te Deum was officiated by the metropolitan primate, accompanied by monks from the monastery, to bless the castle. The inaugural act of the castle includes the words of General Creţeanu, the Head of the Military House, who highlighted the importance of this solemn moment. To commemorate the founding of his heartfelt project, King Carol I decided to issue a medal. The medal features on the obverse the effigy of King Carol I, alongside that of Queen Elizabeth, profiled to the left, accompanied by the Latin legend "CAROLUS I REX ROMANIAE ELISABETHA REGINA" (KING CAROL I, QUEEN ELISABETH OF ROMANIA). In the lower field, the author's mark, W. KULLRICH, A.V.P. The reverse of the medal carries in the central field the silhouette of Peleș Castle, defended by the Carpathian mountains, and above, the Latin legend "INCOHATUM MDCCCLXXIII PERFETUM MDCCCLXXXIII, ANNO XVIII PRINCIPATUS NOSTRI, "(BEGUN IN 1873, COMPLETED IN 1883, THE 18TH YEAR OF OUR REIGN), and below it, the inscription "CASTELLVM PELESCH" (PELEȘ CASTLE).
