Shooting area: Roman Empire, predominantly Rome. Circulation area: Roman Empire, from Spain to India and from Germany to Egypt. Possible place of discovery: Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, West Asia, North Africa. Condition: good. The lot contains coins that circulated individually or in the form of treasury on the territories of pre-Roman Dacia. Such denari were present in large numbers throughout Dacia until the time of Trajan. This lot also contains three rarer examples of Serratus denarii, highly sought after in the period, by the barbarian populations. The Serratus was a proposed solution to the problem of counterfeiting denarii. Due to the fact that the value of the coin was given by the weight (and type) of the material, it was very important that the denarii were made of silver and not other silvered alloys. The testing method was simple, they were crested to check if the inside is also silver. The Roman mint responded to this problem by issuing coins already crested on the edges, similar to watch wheels, in order to show the good silver inside. At the same time, among the coins there is also a denarius struck by Marcus Antonius for his legions during the war with Octavian.
