The most important and rarest Romanian circulating silver coin, with a circulation of only 12,476 copies. The coin presents exceptional details, both on the front and the back, being almost uncirculated, examples in similar storage conditions being extremely difficult to find in collections, and very rarely appearing for sale. Similar pieces have been auctioned for substantial amounts, and these coins are becoming increasingly difficult to purchase, establishing themselves in collections, both in Romania and abroad. Thus, similar coins of 2 lei 1901, have been sold in the last 3 years, at several auction houses around the world. In Feb. 2022 at the WAG auction house in Germany a similar coin sold for 36,000 eur (including the auction house's fees), in Dec. 2022 at Pegasus Auctions in Sweden it sold for 48,000 eur (including the auction house's fees), and at Heritage Auctions in the USA it sold for 46,000 usd (including the auction house's fees) in Aug. 2024.
