Regimentul 3 Artilerie Grea a fost constituit în 1916 pe fondul intrării României în Primul Război Mondial și a participat în campaniile militare ale armatei române desfășurate cu acel prilej. Dotat cu piese noi de artilerie furnizate de Franța în 1917, a sprijinit puternic unitățile de infanterie românești în bătăliile de la Mărășești.
