Coined by Mircea the Elder, the most important and the most glorious ruler of Wallachia. He reigned between 1386 and 1418. As a typology, this coin is known by Romanian Numismatics under the name of Wallachian Ducat, corresponding to the systems of Ducats coined in Venice in 1202. Regarding the engravery itself (obverse - reverse), the coin corresponds to the common Wallachian Ducat typology, encountered in all the emissions under Wallachian monarchs, starting from Vlaicu I (1364 - 1377) to Basarab (the Elder) Laiotă (1473 - 1477, with several interruptions) The captions on the Mircea the Elder coins were written either in Cyrillic characters, either in Latin ones. This one uses Cyrillic characters.
