The American businessman and philanthropist Waldemar de Barkow received from Queen Mary of Romania a portrait photograph of himself edited in the form of a splendid heliogravure by the publisher Bertram Park of London, with her holograph signature in black ink at lower right. Bertram Park (1883-1972) was a very well-known London photographer and publisher, photographer of the British Royal House, who photographed the sovereigns of Greater Romania in several large-scale photographs of outstanding artistic quality. On the back of the photograph is the mailing side of the envelope, which contained the piece sent by the Queen to the recipient's home in San Francisco, USA. The address is handwritten by the Queen and is next to the stamps and postmarks that attest to the circulation from Romania to America. Baron of Barkow was getting the second piece, a photograph of King Alexander I Karageorgevich of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, who was the son-in-law of Queen Mary following the marriage to one of her daughters, Princess Mary (Mignon). On the verso of this photograph is the mail side of the envelope in which the piece travelled from Belgrade to San Francisco. The mailing address, stamps and postmarks can be seen. The photo was sent in March 1934. On October 9, 1934, King Alexander I was assassinated in Marseille during an official visit to France. The photo of the King is accompanied by three wax seals containing the seal matrix of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia coat of arms.
