With an impressive record of national and international distinctions and awards, Alexandru Tomescu's name is also associated with prestigious competitions such as: Niccolo Paganini (Italy), Pablo Sarasate (Spain), Marguerite Long – Jacques Thibaud (France) or George Enescu (Romania). Over the course of more than 20 years of concert activity, the chords of the young Romanian's violin have resounded in the world's largest concert halls: Carnegie Hall - New York, Concertgebouw - Amsterdam, Berliner Philharmoniker, Théâtre des Champs Élysées - Paris or Metropolitan Arts Center - Tokyo, alongside prestigious orchestras conducted by famous conductors : Kurt Masur, Valery Gergiev or Christoph Eschenbach. In September 2007 Alexandru Tomescu won the right to play the famous Stradivarius Elder-Voicu 1702 violin for a period of five years. The Stradivarius Elder violin, used for four decades by the master Ion Voicu, is considered to be one of the best preserved Stradivarius instruments.
