Who is the Fantastic Woman or Wonder Woman? The Fantastic Woman represents one of the most long-lived characters in American comic book universe, with an uninterrupted publication in its over 80 years of existence. Her iconography has been associated either with the feminist movement or with the 20th-century patriarchy that seeks to undermine women's emancipation through subversive images and actions. Analyzing the chronological evolution of the graphic and narrative representation of the character, it can be noted that Wonder Woman is a tool that influenced and was influenced by the American pop-urban culture of each epoch. From the beginning, she is a political tool, of propaganda, of inclusion of women in war efforts and voluntary enrollment of citizens in the army. It is also a social instrument, reflecting a certain conception related to the role of the woman in the community, from an active citizen to a domestic citizen, on which the unity of the nation's basic unit depends: the family. The body of the Fantastic Woman is an illustration of socio-cultural issues from a certain era: the frontier of a state, which can be physical, but also immaterial, through cultural influences exercised; fear of a nuclear war and possible consequences consisting of genetic mutations; the ideal physical beauty and its transformation into a consumable item, through the cosmetic, fitness and pharmaceutical industries. Wonder Woman also addresses contemporary issues such as gender and sexual orientation. Although she meets all the standards of ideal feminine beauty, she also shows exceptional physical strength and is involved in the field of physical violence, formerly an area exclusively reserved for men.
