oil on cardboard, 46 x 33 cm, signed bottom right, in black, "Theodorescu"

Attracted from the beginning of his career by the subject inspired by the rusticity of Romanian tradition, Theodorescu-Sion will compose, in a language appropriate to specific creative periods, an imaginary construction oriented towards highlighting those peculiarities of the authentic indigenous. Attracted by the profoundly human universe, most often rural, guardian of tradition, the painter will choose to conceive his painting, regardless of the proposed style, within a relatively limited figurative language, later outlined, during the profound period, through that style of the "national specifics". The present composition is revealing for Sion's choices from the first period of creation, moments when not so much the subject defined the appearance of the works, but especially the experiments in the pictorial regime. Thus the oil emits a modernist conception of painting technique, does not avoid addressing a chromatic regime of post-impressionist descent, but evokes a "classic" theme, recognizable on a larger scale, somewhat typical for the first 2 decades of the 20th century in Romanian painting (see the compositions with characters inside by Crețulescu, Ressu).
