The work was completed by German humanist Konrad Peutinger (1465-1547), diplomat, economist and archaeologist, counsellor of Emperor Maximilian I of Habsburg. Among his numerous writings, perhaps the most famous one, which granted him a beautiful legacy, is "Tabula Peutingeriana", which comprises the Roman roads built on all territories which were part of the Roman Empire, including the northern side of the Danube, which formed the Roman province of Dacia. The specimen hereby is part of the edition illustrated by Dutch geographer Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598), issued in Antwerp in 1598. The back is made of leather, from the first half of the 19th Century.
