The series of works with cartographic representations, developed by Ion Bitzan, offers the audience an extremely interesting perspective on the use of visual language and of geographical notions, and the author uses these two instruments to create his own set of conventions, a complementary means of knowledge and communication. The course of a map in a book, a symbol having multiple meanings, suggests travelling along an individual road towards profound knowledge of the self, as well as of the environment around us. In contemporary arts, the use of cartography as a means of expression has been used by other artists, as well, such as TARA von Neudorf, Ciprian Mureșan, or Miklos Onucsan.
