acrylic on canvas, 80 x 120 cm, 80 × 120 cm, signed and dated on the reverse, with brown, "Comănescu, 2007"

In Nicolae Comănescu’s works, the most recurrent theme is urban landscaping, and the city itself becomes a character: tired, with ruins, crowded, dusty, or captured in hot summer days. The novel, combinative technique, started being used by the artist for the first time in 2007, when he entitled his landscapes painted with dust "Dust 2.0". "Nicolae Comănescu does not dust" (Ștefan Tiron),he reinvents the function and paints, using Bucharest’s dust, a new facade of the city we live in. The dust is the living grindings of this city, and it reaches all places: cars, buildings, flowers in apartments. Time and space are absorbed by the city frozen still in its own existence. "The moment when I chose to work with dust was when I became aware of it. This whole lot of dust actually speaks of the state of our society. I realized that it is a dense matter, full of information. It is a matter that is worth interrogating and that can be used to interrogate. Dust is a symbol of nostalgia, an urge to inaction, a survivor of history, and then it is a sign of action, of demolition, a vector of power of an indicator of the standard of living. It has been our constant companion over time, from the dust rising from the hoofs of the Turkish messengers to the dust stirred by the mouth of today’s Romanian politicians. The dust has so often settled over good intentions, and the dust has blinded us so many times in history.", declares the artist in an interview. The dust in Bucharest is a chemical, ecological, cultural, and political indicator.
