One of the most prolific contemporary sculptors, Mircea Roman has asserted himself through a series of participations in some of the most important artistic events of the time. He acquired his artistic knowledge in Cluj in the '80s and created iconic works, easy to distinguish, by adopting his own techniques, which he predominantly demonstrates in wood and bronze. We note the series dedicated to the characters, atypical, hybrid, partially humanized, which he carves with care and dedication. His works are timeless, and the psychology of his characters is easily guessed through suggestive titles: "Closed Character", "Innocent", "Overthrown Character", "Character with Inner Armor" or "Character with Stretched Arms". The artist also lived in London for a while, where he organized no less than three personal exhibitions. The current work participated in the personal exhibition at Riverside Studios in London, in 2000. His sculpture, "The Boatman", was placed for a while on one of the pontoons of the Thames. Other works signed by the artist are found in the collections of renowned museums such as the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest, the Museum of Visual Art in Galati, the Museum of Recent Art in Bucharest or the Museum of Contemporary Art in Osaka, Japan. In 1992, Mircea Roman was awarded the Grand Prize at the Triennial in Osaka, and in 1995, the artist participated in the Biennale in Venice.
