Regarded by those who admired and studied his work closely as the "global master of warm-cold contrast", Mihai Horea unquestionably distinguished himself in the guise of an abstract artist. Although studying with Dărăscu, Ressu, and Steriadi, thus embarking on the path of art from a profoundly figurative angle, subject to rigor, he would gradually evolve towards the abstract, getting acquainted with the works of Mattis-Teutsch and Ciucurencu's one. As such, the shy similarities won't be random. The artist would therefore be concerned with color studies and concentrate his entire plastic stake on contrasts. The transfiguration of the canvas and the sublimation of forms will be complemented by the rhythm of the strokes which engage the surface of the work in an endless choreography. Developing his skills as a colorist, Mihai Horea would propose unique chromatic relationships, often working monochromatically with geometrized compositions. He will suggest the earth, the sea or the sky through repetitive strokes, carefully arranged, and will borrow from the lyricism of his brother Ion Horea (poet) in the realization of his plastic works.
