Starting from the premise that "painting is the only medium through which the visceral nature of the world can be expressed", Adrian Ghenie paints, through a Brownian motion dictated by his interior states, a sometimes brutal art, inspired by history and the sensations that Eastern Europe awakens in him. In 2015, Adrian Ghenie represented Romania at the Venice Biennale with the work "Darwin's Room". He enjoys vast representation both in the country and abroad, and his works are included in collections such as: Georges-Pompidou National Center for Art and Culture Paris, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Malaga Contemporary Art Center, The Hammer Museum Los Angeles. The artist captures in his canvases vulnerability, frustration, or desire. He illustrates the subconscious and uses, almost choreographically, a dark, brutal chromatic. His works capture the figurative, but the artist does not hesitate to resort to the use of the obscure, both by changing the focal point, and by representing characters without particular features. Adrian Ghenie incorporates the cinematic in his canvases through the use of light and textures.
