Vincentiu Grigorescu's art can be interpreted as a direct antithesis to the socialist regime where he began to create. In 1972, the artist applies for political asylum in Italy, a country where he is bound to remain until the end of his life. His works are abstract, non-figurative, subjective, devoid of any recognisable objects, but brimming with lines and/or geometric shapes. Colour is ever the central focus, with the artist playing with lights and shadows, suggesting strong light accents contrasted with significant dark dots. The decoding of Vincentiu Grigorescu's works depends on the viewer, the sketched lines revealing vague clues about the artist's intention. In "The White Sphere", the sphere can be perceived as an astronomical object, and the lower part of the painting, where various shades of green are highlighted, can be interpreted as plots of cultivated land; the parallel lines and shadows sketched by the artist provide some clues for Vincențiu Grigorescu's potential intention when he created this work.
