Liviu H. Oprescu, "Mihai Rusu", Meridiane Publishing House, 1984.

oil on canvas, 65.5 x 74 cm, signed and dated bottom right, with grey, "M.R. (19)82"

He attends the courses of Academy of Fine Arts in Iași under the guidance of Corneliu Baba. He completes his education in Bucharest, at the Nicolae Grigorescu Art Institute, under the guidance of Alexandru Ciucurencu. He would also be influenced by the art of Camil Ressu. After completing his studies, he was assigned to Cluj, as Aurel Ciupe's assistant, at the Ion Andreescu Institute of Fine Arts. He then returns to Bucharest, where he could continue to work as a pedagogue. His works are included in many exhibitions, both within the country, as well as abroad. Cubism and abstract art come together in Mihai Rusu's "The Embrace" in a non-figurative, subjective composition, where the semiotics of the message delays its decoding. The influence of master Ciucurencu can be seen throughout this work in the outline, which is more evident than the rendered forms. The sketched-out shapes, lines and objects only depict the means, with the final purpose being embodied by chromatic and tones, lights and shadows.
