He attends courses in Bucharest, but ultimately settles in France. He takes part in countless personal and group exhibitions around the world, and is awarded with prizes both within the country, as well as abroad. His works are included in private collections worldwide but can also be seen in important museums in the United States or New Zealand. His painting style is symbolistic, using metaphors, and composing his canvases in an almost poetica manner. His works seem to have been passed through a sepia filter, due to their dark chromatics. Mazilu does not shy away from transposing the ugly into the aesthetic, even turning it into a genuine art, this process becoming the epitome of his entire creation. "Jeune couple" tells a story where appearances far outweigh the canvas’ underlying essence. Mazilu's characters are hybrid, paradoxical beings whose humanity is only partially recognisable. The arts paints fantasy and relies on physicality and facial expressions. The composition is rife with theatricality, as Mazilu's protagonists seem to be characters excerpted from an anti-comedy instance. "Jeune couple" becomes the puppet of a puppeteer who pulls the strings of shapes, tinges and colours.
