He discovers his artistic abilities since childhood. At first, he depicts family scenery and tackles light themes. He continues to evolve, until he begins to illustrate the great universal painters: Rembrandt, Delacroix, Velasquez. His works would go on to be included in the collections of Zambaccian, Simu or Stelian. In 1946, he receives a scholarship which he would use to travel to France. There, he would draw inspiration from modern art and cubism, picking up aspects from Mondrian’s geometry. "La Ville" is a work brimming with poetic geometry. The artist experiments with lines, shapes and colours. He uses multiple perspectives and a monochromatic palette, where his playfulness with lights and shadows is quite evident. Horia Damian creates art as a refuge and fully takes on the responsibility of expressing seemingly objective things by using his own subjective filter.
