pen and ink on paper, 49 x 63 cm, 49 × 63 cm, signed and dated upper right, with pen and ink, "C.Piliuță, (19)73"

In addition to the long series of still life renderings, portraits or landscapes, Constantin Piliuță also turned his attention to graphics, creating several works using the pen on paper technique. The predominating aspect of graphics is the incisive, visceral line, which seems to be waiting - in a latent state - to "assault" the paper. With the help of a few absolutely crucial lines, the artist manages to illustrate an entire world. In "At the Pub", he emphasizes the details on the faces of the characters, creating a sea of expressiveness made up of human figures. The work takes on a dramatic touch, as if being a theatre scene captured on paper. Each character takes on a different personality, but existential boredom seems to have enveloped all mortals from Piliuță's graphics. Although most of the characters are static, one may notice a dynamic instance captured near the bar. The artist's graphics come alive with dynamism, despite the statuesque state of some of the characters depicted on paper.
