In 1988, Ștefan Râmniceanu opened at Curtea Veche, the exhibition "The Binding", his last great event before choosing the path of exile, but also a tribute to the personality of Constantin Brâncoveanu, founder and man of letters, political figure. In 2014, on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Brâncoveanu family, Ștefan Râmniceanu returned to the Romanian art scene with his retrospective exhibition at Mogoșoaia Palace, "Traces". The works, belonging to different cycles, series entitled "The Binding", "Manuscript", "The Shirt of the Walls", "Bookmakers", "Apostles of Clay", "The Pillar", "Idols", "Centaurs", "Golden Nights", "The Universal Man", "Letters from the Islands", highlight the artist's predilection for the neo-Byzantine direction, which began in the 1980s. Through the chosen symbolic image, the vision of Ştefan Râmniceanu imposes the image of the bookman, the visionary prince, the exceptional founder who was Constantin Basarab Brâncoveanu. The placement of his creation in the current social and political context entails a beginning of hope on journey of restoration, spiritual redemption of today’s Romania, a free European country, yet a country that is still ailing.
