An old, collectable, rare costume, Mediaş subarea. Made up of four pieces, includes: blouse with detached bottoms, front apron, head dress. It is a special set due to the temporal unit of the pieces, the polychromic style in strong tones and the dating of the lot, year 1901. The blouse is a rare, old piece with attached bottoms, with fine stitching on the rustles of the sleeves or the upper side. The upper part is made of fine, hand-crafted jolj (cotton), with a wide vest at the front and narrow vest at the back, sewn with floral motifs with the tree of life. The front apron is a rare collector’s item dated on the face 1901 – made of warp fabric and wool weft, with traditional embroidery, richly sewn with floral motifs with wool thread. The head dress is made of a fabric with a black satin cotton background, sewn with floral motifs, with the same polychrome configuration as the apron. The church cloak is made of fine pleated fabric from wool and cotton, with the inner side made of red cotton cloth, with the outer perimeter edge made of cotton velvet sewn to a thread with floral motifs. The accessories are made of silk and cotton fabric. The costume belonged to Maria Salmen, who included it in her small collection of folk costumes which she gathered from several Romanian regions, i.e. Transylvania in this case. The costume was commissioned by her and purchased in 1901. Maria was the wife of illustrator Leonard Salmen, Polish originally, the one who created, as of 1895, a wide series of illustrated postcards inspired by the themes of original poems, and some very popular in the era.
