The work was printed by the City Hall of Bucharest on the occasion of the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of the great King Carol I, under the high patronage of King Carol II. The volume contains 86 reproductions of oil paintings, watercolours, drawings, prints and photographs, including 24 hors-texte plates from the collections: Royal Palace, Romanian Academy, George Olszewski, Adrian Corbu, St. Capșa and Mihai-Viteazu Guard Regiment. Among the reproductions we mention: King Carol I in the War 1877-1878, after Ajdukiewicz; King Carol on the Cotroceni Plateau, 1869, after Emil Volkers; King Carol I at manoeuvres, in the autumn of 1874, in Buzău; Assault on Grivița; Battle of Smârdan, after Grigorescu; Taking of a Turkish flag by a fighter, 1877; King Carol I, during the Campaign in Bulgaria, with Crown Prince Ferdinand, Prince Carol and General Averescu s.a.
