Photo taken at 6400 meters altitude on Gashebrum 2 - 8035m, illustrating the Himalayan peak Gasherbrum 1 - 8068m which Alex Găvan climbed as a Romanian premiere in 2007. Leica CM, Fuji Provia film. Romania's top performer in extreme altitude mountaineering, Alex Găvan has climbed seven peaks over 8,000 metres in the Himalayas by fair means, without supplementary oxygen and without altitude porters. Twice Sportsman of the Year and twice nominated for the same award by the Romanian Mountaineering and Climbing Federation, Gold Medal for Sporting Merit (Spain). Among others, Forbes 30 UNDER 30 and "Foreign Policy - 100 people moving the country". Alex uses the best possible scenery, the peaks of the planet's highest mountains, to make a difference to the causes he has been or is involved in. These include stopping illegal logging, protecting the last virgin forests, the Văcărești Nature Park, Bucharest's Green Belt, saving the Romanichthys fish, probably the rarest fish in the world, or banning the use of cyanide in mining. After surviving the Everest earthquake and avalanche on April 25, 2015, he and his team initiated "Joy for Nepal", a humanitarian campaign that has seen the construction of three schools in remote Himalayan communities, where over 300 children now attend. The Alex Gavan Foundation was also born to manifest in concrete terms its founder's vision according to which "The Universe means abundance, generosity and altruism", by carrying out projects in the environmental, educational, sports, arts and social fields. Alex Găvan is also the founder of ISLT - "Inner Self Leadership Treks", an altitude-based personal leadership program for entrepreneurs and top management.
