The first edition of Brașov International Music Festival (Cerbul de Aur) took place between March 5 and 10, 1968, at the Dramatic Theatre. The directors of the festival were Tudor Vornicu and Ilie Mănescu. The orchestra was conducted by maestro Sile Dinicu. Romanian Television was in charge of the organization, being the one who made the selection of the contestants and stars. On the first day there was a recital by the famous singer Constantin Drăghici. The competition itself took place between March 6 and 9. On March 7, TVR released the official magazine of the first edition of the festival in five languages. It contained interviews with the participating stars as well as biographies of the contestants. The international acclaim has been outstanding, both for the staging and the scenic arrangement.
