The iconostasis depicts scenes from the Life of Jesus Christ the Saviour. Located centrally, in a gold frame, against a blue background, the Crucifixion scene is rendered, according to the composition scheme established in Byzantine art. The Cross with Jesus crucified is placed at the centre of the composition, symmetrically, and the Mother of God and Saint John the Evangelist are rendered standing on either side of the Cross, with a deep sorrow attitude. Above the horizontal arm of the cross, two angels flying, to the left and to the right. All around in the medallions, against the golden background, scenes from the Passions Cycle and the Road to Golgotha are depicted. Flowers are sprinkled on the pink background. The connection with the lateral medallions is achieved with a phylactery with the text: "Patimile lui IS HS Domnu[l]. Chindu l-au pironit p[e] HS", which translates as "The Passions of Jesus Christ the Lord. When JC was nailed." The composition is well-structured, the details are achieved with refined sharpness. The icon has an ample and balanced composition, with a minute drawing and a harmonious colour alternance, being, as far as is currently known, unique. (M.B.) Conservation status: a fissure on the right.
