On one of the sides on a green background, amidst a cluster of clouds, the New Testament Holy Trinity is depicted in the Western New Testament version, the composition includes Jesus on the left, God the Father on the right, with scepter, both holding the globus cruciger. Above them is the Holy Spirit, depicted as a pelican piercing its breast with its beak (a symbol of self-sacrifice). On the other side, on a blue-sky and ochre-earth background of the icon, standing are depicted Saint Emperor Constantine with his mother Elena, supporting between them the Cross, the symbol of Christian faith. Both are dressed in royal garments, adorned with gold thread embroidery. Around their heads, the halos are delimited from the gold background by a white line. The inscriptions designating the scenes are in Romanian, with Cyrillic characters. The painter preserves the tradition of the previous century in the way the faces and garments are realized. (A.D.)
