This icon is a 19th century reproduction of a well-known icon made in the 17th century, belonging to the Stroganov school. The initial model was created by the painter Nikifor Istomin Savin.
One of the saint's most famous miracles was his fight with the serpent that had kidnapped his mother and deprived the city of water. Theodore Tyro managed to defeat the serpent and free his mother, restoring the water for the city. This miracle gave birth to a unique iconography, which has been known in Russia since the 14th century. (M.B.)
