143. "Povestea lui Ionică cel Prost" ("The Story of Ionică the Fool"), by Ion Creangă, 1938, copy no. 50/50, rare collector's item

Ion Creangă read for the first time the pornographic story "Ionică the Fool" in one of the meetings of the Literary Society "Junimea" of which he was a member, along with other personalities of Romanian literature, such as Caragiale or Eminescu. Received with much enthusiasm by the Junimists, the story could not be published in "Convorbiri Literare" ("Literary Conversations") because this type of literature was forbidden at the time. Those who published their memories of "Junimea" tell us about the interest with which all the members, without reservations, appreciated the anecdotes and the licentious stories that Creangă never hesitated to share at the end of the society's meetings. Remaining in manuscript, this literary production would later see the light of print. The copy is part of a very rare edition of only 50 copies, which does not include any mention of the publisher or printer, for the same legal reasons. Published in 1938 under the title "Ion Creangă inedit" ("Ion Creangă Unpublished"), the story had an enormous success among bibliophiles and collectors. The copy has the number 50 printed on the reverse of the front cover.
