Politician and diplomat, Eugen Voinescu was one of the most atypical artists we find on the Bucharest painting rails at the turn of the 19th - 20th centuries. In addition to having two of the most important beauty creators of the nineteenth century as teachers - Gustave Courbet in Paris during his studies, and Constantin Aivazovsky, when he was consul in Odessa, at an old age (he started at the age of 47, in 1889) Voinescu became an important name in the local artistic life. After giving up his diplomatic career, most likely after the contact with and the lessons learned around Aivazovsky, Voinescu would dedicate himself to his artistic and teaching career (substitute teacher at Belle Arte in Iași, afterwards, teacher at Belle Arte in Bucharest since 1893). His painting succeeded in becoming very appreciated in a short time, the specific theme approached by the artist being to the taste of and in the line of Bucharest audience.
