Nicolae Dărăscu's attraction for the seascape was directly related to his interest in the Impressionist style that defined his career. From the onset of his career, Dărăscu showed interest in the lessons of Impressionism and Neo-Impressionism, both from Monet's canvases and especially from the works of Signac or Seurat. Thus, during the time he spent around the bays of Saint-Tropez or Grimaud, between 1908 and 1913/1914, the composition of Dărăscu improved, stroke by stroke, towards a post-impressionist creation of a perfect colourist. His voluptuousness and pleasure of painting in a (neo) impressionist style, coordinated by the attraction for the sea life and characterized by chromatic divisionism, made the painter to achieve an extremely individualized cycle of marine related paintings.
