oil on canvas, 33 x 24 cm, signed lower right, in black, "ISER"

Iosif Iser gradually develops a profound sense for the human being, especially for the female model. His work is divided into cycles dedicated to odalisques, Spanish women, Colombines, ballerinas or nude studies on the bodies of his muses. The synthetic line, through which the painter summarizes shapes and volumes and with which he transcribes the entire chromatic palette, reveals to us this time, Iser's protagonist sitting on a chair, posing for the artist in an intimate setting. If in the case of odalisques we are confronted with statuesque attitudes that showed sensuality and specific costumes made up of shalvars and transparent veils; in this work we note that the artist has opted for the rendering of the completely naked body. The model appears this time sitting on a chair, the open flesh contrasting strongly with the bright red tones illustrated in the background. The atmosphere of familiarity is given off both by the subject and by the pictorial manner chosen by the artist. If his travels through Dobrogea ended with a rich plastic cycle dedicated to unusual landscapes and typologies of Tatars and Odalisques; staying in Paris was to bring to the Romanian painter's studio a series of models that served him as inspiration for the graphic or pictorial deepening of the nude. Among the muses who often crossed the threshold of his Parisian studio, we remember Suzanne Caudal, often depicted sitting in an armchair, with her arms crossed, posing demonstratively for the artist.
